Collage Art for Kids: 14 Ideas for Toddlers to Tweens

    • Facebook
    • Twitter

Collage art is one of the best beginning art ideas to do with kids because it doesn't rely of the ability to "draw something." Collage art for kids allows little ones to explore texture, color, shape and design; and if you focus on the process of creating collage instead of the product, kids' creative spirits will soar.

So if you are looking for some good collage art projects for kids, you'll find some great suggestions for toddlers, preschoolers, elementary-aged children and tweens below. And for good measure, we've also included a couple of fantastic collage art inspired by great artists like Matisse and Picasso.

    Happy art-making!

    Collage Art with Toddlers

It's not difficult to start a collage art project with toddlers! Place your toddler in their high chair, get out the glue and let your little one explore sticking objects and scraps in glue. Of course, as always, you'll need to supervise!

    Collage Art for Preschoolers

Preschoolers love to be given the freedom to explore their creativity. With these collage art ideas for preschoolers, make sure they are able to focus on the process, rather than the product.

If your preschooler has a particular interest, foster that with specially selected collage materials. My son loved numbers, so he made a collage out of hundreds of numbers!

Barley and Birch has a very simple scrap paper collage idea. Watch their video below to see how it's done. Their idea could also be adapted for toddlers and I love how it gives preschoolers an opportunity to explore the concept of how framing changes perspective.

This winter scrap texture idea from In the Playroom is easily adapted for any season.

Rainy Day Mum shows you that mixed media collage art for preschoolers doesn't have to be complicated.

I can't think of a better way to use items headed for the trash than this junk modeling collage idea from Red Ted Art.

    Collage for Elementary

Elementary-aged kids can start to explore complex collage projects, but as with younger kids, let them have the freedom to come up with their own interpretations and find delight in the artistic and creative process.

Make a bird art collage from dried flowers. Could this idea from Blue Bear Wood be any cuter? You could substitute all kinds of object from nature.

I love it when books and art intersect, especially when it is with a beloved picture book like A Rainbow of My Own. See Walking By the Way's idea for a rainbow puzzle collage.
