    Numbers Collage Art Project

    • Facebook

This numbers collage art project is not just about numbers. It's actually a passion collage art project that harnesses your child's interest!

It just so happens that the kid in question has a passion for numbers. What does your child love? It might be dinosaurs, birds, letters, the color blue, pizza, fairies, trucks, you name it. So whenever you see the word "numbers" in the instructions for this collage art project, substitute your child's passion!

Pile of colorful collage materials next to bottle of white glue, small shoe box and child's hands.

    Materials

Glue, either a bottle of school glue or a glue stick

Large piece of paper such as construction paper

    Box of collage materials.

We keep a shoebox full of items, such as paper, ribbon or fabric scraps, that are good for collages project. If you don't already have a collection of materials for collage projects, gather magazines, catalogs, and appropriate art supply materials like foam shapes, sequins or stickers.

    Scissors (if necessary)

    Instructions

One hardly needs instructions for how to make a collage. Let your child sort through the box of collage materials, or flip through magazines.

Child putting glue on number-shaped collage art materials, next to pile of collage supplies.

They should gather together all the images and items that they would like to include in their collage according to their passion. In this case, the collage materials all related to numbers!

When doing this numbers collage project at home, you will likely be fortunate enough to experience your child working quietly while sorting materials! I was lucky to get a nice and quiet 45 minutes! Perhaps put on some peaceful music, too.

All the numbers were extracted from the other collage materials like paper and fabric scraps.

Glue the items to the large piece of paper. Since this is a child-led, process art project, there is no need to give instructions on where to place the items in the collage. Let the child have control!

Making a numbers (or other passion) collage art project is a great way to allow your child some autonomy, which build self-confidence and ownership over their creation.

You never know what the end result will be!

How great that Kiddo concentrated on what he was doing for so long. I don't know that CJ would be able to use the glue bottle that well- I have a feeling she'd just want to squirt globs of it all over the paper! I know what a good motivator TV can be, BTW- only it's Curious George and Thomas the Train here. :o)
