Welcome to the final edition of The Great Summer Library Challenge for Kids. I hope you have been able to find time to participate in one or more of the library challenges this summer that No Twiddle Twaddle and I have created. Perhaps they have inspired you to make a few extra trips to the library and even if you didn’t follow along with the challenges, I hope they encouraged you to look a bit closer at the different resources your library offers.
Summer is nearly at an end for many kids. Are your kids are headed back to school in a few weeks? Or do you still have, like we do, a month of dog days left to fill? Whatever your back-to-school schedule, I’m sure you can make room for at least one more trip to the library to complete a Library Scavenger Hunt!
Download and Print: Library Scavenger Hunt for Kids* Feel free to print out as many as you like and pass along to friends or maybe even give a stack of them to your children’s librarian.
MORE: Don’t forget to print out our summer reading log!
Here are a few sample clues:
Clue #1 – Listen, look, and read. Can you find an audiobook and its corresponding print copy? (Bonus Point: Find a DVD about the same book too!)
Clue #2 – Roll out the red carpet for the book celebrities. Can you find a book with a medal on its cover?
Clue #3 – Visiting the library is out of this world. Can you find the call number for non-fiction books about the moon.
If you’ve been following along with Bethany and me, you will notice that the questions on this Scavenger Hunt reinforce knowledge covered by challenges. Or, if you never completed the challenges, think of the Scavenger Hunt as a substitute. Maybe it will even inspire you to go back and take a second look at the challenges! You can send your kids off on their own to complete the hunt, or work side by side with them.
Finally: thank you for following along this summer with the library challenges! If you completed any or all of the challenges, or even if they simply encouraged you to make an extra visit to the library, take a moment to leave a comment and let us know.
