    Summer Reading Bookmarks to Color

    • Facebook

These summer reading bookmarks to color, designed by children's book illustrator Melanie Hope Greenberg, are just the thing to get your kids excited about checking out all the books on our summer reading lists!

Summer reading bookmarks, colored pencils and novel on green background.

As with all our coloring pages, these summer reading bookmarks are free and ready for you to print and color.

How to Make Summer Reading Bookmarks

Step 1. Print out bookmarks, preferably on card stock for a sturdy bookmark

    • PRINT HERE: (By clicking on link you agree to our terms of service, *see below) Summer bookmarks coloring page

Step 2. Color the bookmarks with pencils, markers, crayons, or any other art supplies you want!

Step 3. Cut out the bookmarks along the lines.

Step 4. (totally optional) Laminate bookmarks or seal with packing tape or clear sticky paper like Contact Paper.

Step 5. Read a book by Melanie Hope Greenberg (See end of post for a few awesome choices!) and mark your favorite page with a bookmark.

Step 6. Print out more of our favorite summer coloring pages! And scroll down this page to see some unique tips and ideas for using your new bookmarks!

    Tips and Ideas:

    • Use these summer bookmarks to promote your library's summer reading program (Please make sure to credit Melanie Hope Greenberg as the creator, and share her summer book, Mermaids on Parade with your patrons!)
    • Bring along one of the printable bookmark pages to color on your next trip to the library to keep toddlers busy while you look for books, or to keep them sitting down while you read to them
    • Older kids can personalize the back of their summer bookmarks with their name, or even use it to keep a running list of books they have read, or want to read like a mini reading log
    • For heaven's sake, if your child cuts out his bookmark and his scissor skills are still developing, do not trim off all the excess to make it "perfect". Who cares if they are perfect. Much better for kids to be proud of their accomplishment!
    • Give finished bookmarks as gifts. What better way to say "Have a great summer!" to friends than to hand them a personalized summer reading bookmark!

    Meet the Illustrator

Melanie Hope Greenberg's favorite part of summer is reading a good book at the beach. She is also an award winning author and illustrator of more than 15 children’s books. Her cheerful, vibrant illustrations can be found in books such as Good Morning, Digger, Down in the Subway and A City Is. Her very popular Mermaids on Parade was selected as a Bank Street Best Book, and for the Texas Reading Club and PBS Kids Summer Reading Lists.

I love these book marks! Would you mind if I used them in our library as a summer activity?
      Thank you so much!
