Construction Coloring Page for Kids Who Love Diggers!

    • Facebook

Construction-loving kids rejoice! For this month's coloring page featuring things that go, Melanie Hope Greenberg shares this fun, printable construction coloring page (for free, of course!) featuring trucks and construction workers.

Construction site coloring page featuring illustration of trucks and men on scaffolding.

The illustrations of the dump truck, digger and cement mixer along with the workers on the scaffolding are from Melanie's dummy sketches for the book Good Morning Digger by Anne Rockwell. Melanie has an informative post about creating dummies on her website. Her insight into how picture books are made is always so interesting.

Good Morning Digger, interior page with illustration of construction site behind large fence with apartment buildings and road on other side of fence.

Good Morning Digger, about a child watching the transformation of a construction site to a community center, is currently a Scholastic Book Club selection.

Extra Fun: Like many of Melanie's monthly coloring pages, this one can be turned into a craft. Cut out the trucks, turn them into play figures by gluing onto cardboard or onto a craft stick. How fun it would be to read the book and then create a play scene based on it. You can see how we did this with Melanie's historic bookmobile stick puppets.

    Meet the illustrator:

Melanie Hope Greenberg is an award winning author and illustrator of more than 15 children’s books. Her cheerful, vibrant illustrations can be found in books such as Good Morning, Digger, Down in the Subway and A City Is. Her very popular Mermaids on Parade  was selected as a Bank Street Best Book, and for the Texas Reading Club and PBS Kids Summer Reading Lists.

Melanie welcomes parents to connect with her on Facebook. Melanie also visits schools to talk about the process of creating a book: you can read about that AND get 2 additional free coloring pages on her blog.

My son has a current obsession with tractors and construction (we recently had a construction zone breakfast). IAnd 've set up a play station for him dedicated to this very topic. Think I will be printing this page to add to his station as well 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
