    Fine Motor Activity: Threading Pipecleaners

Sometimes the best boredom busters emerge from nowhere.

Such was the case with this super easy pipe cleaner threading activity, It turns out it is also a fantastic way for kids to work on their fine motor skills, which are so important for handwriting.

The other day, I got out the bag of pipe cleaners without any real plan in mind. I rarely have a plan, just so you know.

I had a vague idea of showing my son how to manipulate the pipe cleaners and wondered what he might do with them. At first he made some twisties by twirling (sort of) the pipe cleaner around a spoon handle but then I got the bright idea to do some lacing and got out the hole puncher.

The hole puncher was a bit too difficult for Kiddo to use on his own, but he enjoyed being the boss and showing me where he wanted each hole.  We squeezed the hole punch handle together.

Fine motor skills practice with pipe cleaner threading

He loved poking the cleaners through the holes. Haven't I always said the simple things are the best? I also brought out some straws, which also entertained him Sadly, I was having too much fun to remember to take a photo of that.
It was so wonderful how this simple activity kept him entertained, and busy. Best of all, I got to imagine myself as a super-mom, giving him all sorts of fine motor practice. It's great how life comes together like that!

In addition, this tunnel made an appearance.
