    Game of the Month: Dragonwood

    • Facebook

Our latest game of the month, Dragonwood from Gamewright, is a winning selection for kids who love fantasy and myth! Dragonwood has been a favorite in our house since we got it as a gift last holiday season. Dragons, goblins, unicorns, elves and gooey globs all feature in this fun game which dares players to risk a roll of the dice in order to defeat their foes!

    About Dragonwood Game

Dragonwood is a combination card and dice game. It contains a deck of numbered adventurer cards, a deck of creature and enhancement cards, and a set of red dice with snazzy gold numbers.

The goal of the game is to capture creature cards and earn points. You do this by collecting enough adventurer cards in an attempt to roll enough dice to successfully "Stomp" "Strike" or "Scream" at a creature in order to capture it. Players can also capture enhancement cards which give them advantages in their quest.

When both dragons have been captured the game is over and the player with the most points wins.

    Tips for Playing with Kids

Dragonwood is a wonderful game for kids who love fantasy and imaginative play. Kids will love the design of the game, the card illustrations and humorous details.

Dragonwood requires strategic thinking and weighing the pros and cons of going for a sure thing versus taking risks. For example, players must decide if they want to try for low point value but easier-to-capture creatures, or wait patiently and collect adventurer cards in hopes of capturing a higher value dragon. Players must also consider the strategic value of capturing enhancement cards.

Gamewright recommends Dragonwood for players 8 and up. Younger, experienced gamers will catch on and can play alongside adults.
