Trick-or-Treat Halloween Coloring Page with Preschool Rhyme Activity

    • Facebook

Are your kids getting excited for Halloween? Do they have their homemade costumes all picked out? This month's free Halloween coloring page from children's illustrator and author Melanie Hope Greenberg is a darling trick or treat scene.

Not only that, we created a cute preschool rhyme and stick puppets to extend the imaginative fun. Be sure to put it on your list of fun family activities for fall!

Halloween coloring page with trick or treaters in costume and five falling leaves in the margin. Text next to image reads, "trick or treating coloring page with bonus: five little leaves rhyming activity"

Those five leaves in the sidebar of the trick or treat scene were so tempting! We knew we had to do something amusing with them. My son has been really into reciting the 5 Little Pumpkins rhyme lately (and when I say "really into" I mean "15 million times a day") so we made up a rhyme for "5 Little Leaves."

The leaf rhyming song and stick puppets would be a great activity for preschool circle time in October!

    What you need

    • The "main ingredient" is the coloring page!

Download and print: Halloween Trick or Treating Coloring Page (By clicking on this link, you are agreeing to the terms of use -- see end of post for details.)

    • Paper
    • Crayons, coloring pencils or markers
    • Scissors
    • Craft sticks
    • Glue stick

While you've got the printer warmed up, print out these Halloween coloring pages, too!

    • Halloween "fishing" coloring page, includes more stick puppets!

    Instructions

After printing out the coloring page, let your child color it for as long as they like.

Next, cut out the individual leaves in the side bar. It's easier to make the stick puppets if you cut them out with a good size border around them. No need to cut exactly on each leaf's outline.

Use the glue stick, or tape, to attach each leaf to the end of a wooden craft stick.

    Say the rhyme!

5 little leaves whooshing through the sky.

The first one said, “This is fun, come on and try!”

The second one said, “There are witches in the air!”

The third one said, “But we don’t care.”

The fourth one said, “Let’s fly and fly and fly!”

The fifth one said, “I’m going now, good bye!”

    And ooooooo went the wind.

    And out went the lights.

And the 5 little leaves, they blew out of sight.

OK. So it's not genius, but we had a few giggles reciting it.
