    Puffy Paint, do-over

Our last foray into the realm of puffy paint was not too successful. This time I used a recipe which called for equal parts shaving cream and glue. I find this confusing. Do you realize how voluminous shaving cream is? So I was supposed to use a cup of glue? That's like an entire bottle. Good thing I have 12 of them.
Oh yes, we tried adding glitter glue for color. It didn't work too well and I don't have 12 bottles of glitter glue so we used regular glitter. A lot of it.
Kiddo didn't spend a lot of time with it. Mostly he just wanted to squeeze out the glue, which is good, cheap entertainment, by the way. And after a day the puffs really deflated.I think we are done with puffy paint for a while.

      Hi

I have recntly stumbled across your blog and enjoy reading all of your creative ideas.

I also like to dabble with different painting techniques for my two and a half year old. We also tried the puff paint recipe. We used 1 tbsp self raising flour, 1tbsp salt and a little water to get a gooey consistency. We then added the food colouring. Once we painted onto card (we found using cotton buds produced good results) we then popped the painted card in the microwave for about 15 seconds and this is when the paint puffed. I have a post of it on my blog under the "Toddler Triumphs" listed on the left hand side. The post is called "Microwaving Art".

I am looking forward to visiting again soon.

      Elise

Hmmm, we've never tried puff paint and I can just see baby Jordan not letting us...too tempting for an 11 month old. Alex on the other hand would be too busy pretending that she's shaving her dollie to enjoy any arts/crafts 🙂

We haven't used any kind of puffy paints, but just the other day I bookmarked the following link with one to try. It's a little different because you puff it up in the microwave after you've painted:

I like how you linked that little grammar lesson at the end! lol Now I'm totally paranoid. Did I know this? Have I made this error in any of my posts? AAAAHHHH! 🙂

I must know more about your grammar interest. Does this come naturally, or did you have a grammar nazi teacher in school? I'm oblivious to most (if not all!) grammar rules. I'm thankful for your lessons - I just hope to remember them!

I've heard rumors about microwave puffy paint. However, we live in the dark ages and do not have a microwave. Can you believe it?

I'm sorry (and surprised) to hear the flour/salt/water recipe didn't work for you. We've done that one twice and it worked great--and the paint dried rock hard, not squishy or puffy.

I wonder if you added too much paint? We add just a smidgen...which usually makes the paint more pastel than the "actual" color.

If you try it again (with the salt/flour/water)--try adding less paint & see if it works!

      Don't give up!
