Science Activities for Kids

Science activities for kids that are easy to do at home.

My kids love learning with simple science experiments. Scientific explorations teaches kids patience, encourages curiosity and is also just a lot of fun!

Most of our science projects are easy to do at home, with common household materials. We have ideas for toddlers and tweens and everyone in between. You will find everything from plant science, to chemical reactions, to harnessing the power of electricity. There is something for every interest and skill level.

Peruse our archive of ideas or see a list on our Giant List of Indoor Activities for Kids.

Make an ocean in a bottle.

Today we made an ocean in a bottle! As you know, I’ve been preparing some after-camp activities for my son to keep him busy while his brother naps. Since we had so much fun with watercolor pencil seashell art, we are continuing with the seashore theme. As you can see, books about the sea were…

Magnet Play Container

How to make a magnet busy jar for kids to learn about science.

This was a really easy activity to put together for Kiddo and provided lots of entertainment (very important for lazy parents like me). March 17, 2009

Float or sink is a classic science activity for kids

“Float or Sink?” is a science project that many kids have done by the time they are 4, but somehow, we missed it. Kiddo was reading a Curious George book and in the back was this classic science activity, which he wanted to try. Also, it involves water, and he likes any activity that uses…

Preschool science craft. Make a weather wheel

Kiddo loves to hear the daily weather report. He always wants to know the chance of rain, the high and low temperatures. He quizzes me every morning on the weather. That’s probably my own fault. When I moved to New York from my lovely home state of California 8 years ago I became obsessed with…
