    Game of the Month: Colorku

My seven year old loves his giant sized version of Color Sudoku called Colorku. It is a little pricey; he received it as a gift and it gets a lot of use. I love that he can play the game independently, so it keeps him busy while I'm doing other things.

Colorku game is a twist on Sudoku

Colorku (affiliate link) is played just like the traditional game of Sudoku but with colored wooden marbles rather than numbers. This version comes with 104 different puzzles to solve, and additional puzzle cards are available to extend the fun as kids start to mast the game.

In the photos you can see that New Kid (age 3) has appropriated the game for his own purposes. (In fact, re-purposing games for younger kids is a common practice in our home!) He likes to first move all the marbles to the plastic frame...

... and then arrange them by color in the wooden frame. I like to think of this as a fine motor skills exercise.

    Skip-bo
    Animal Bingo
    Rummikub
    Qwirkle

This reminds of the marble game Aggravation, a staple at my grandparents' house.

This would be a hit with my mildly abstract-thinking challenged daughter who LOVES all things artsy. Confession: I am more drawn to colors over numbers, too.

It's such a good game, it's just too bad that it is rather expensive.

I appreciate all of your posts in which you share games and books your children enjoy. I want you to know that I always click your links and immediately put almost everything you recommend on their amazon wish lists. Occasionally someone purchases them. Some of our favorites are Qwirkle and Extreme dot-to-dots. Keep them coming! Saves me from having to do any heavy thinking about what to buy them 🙂

That's so kind, Steph! Thanks. And I'm glad they have turned out to be favorites of yours, too.
