Favorite Picture Book Authors: Catherine Rayner

One of our favorite children's picture book author-illustrators is the Scotland-based Catherine Rayner. I first discovered her when I read last year's The Bear Who Shared about a wise Bear who waits for a lovely ripe fruit to fall from the tree. Her newest book, Solomon Crocodile follows a mischievous croc who is in need of an equally mischievous friend.

I've discovered that all of her books are really quite wonderful. An appealing mix of delightful illustrations and just the right amount of whimsical storytelling.

    Check these out:

Ernest, the Moose Who Doesn't Fit.
How do you fit a moose inside a book? Very carefully.
    Sylvia and Bird.
    Charming winged creatures become friends.
    Iris and Isaac.
Polar bears are not friends. Or are they?
    Harris Finds His Feet.
What do you do with such huge feet?
    Augustus And His Smile.
    Find your smile.

Have your read Rayner's books? What do you think?

One of my favorite author/illustrators as well! Consistently good. Augustus is my fave of the bunch. Haven't seen Iris and Isaac yet - I'll have to hunt it down!

How strange - I don't believe we read anything by her. I'll make sure to see what our library has - thanks for profiling her!
