Give a Book! Or Two! Or Ten!
Are you in the mood to give a book to someone? You are in luck! February 14th is International Book Giving Day. But you don’t have to choose between the Valentine’s Day and Book Giving Day: celebrate your love of books and children by giving them a book instead of a box of candy! Much better, don’t you think?
If you’ve spent any time at all on this blog, you know that I adore books. I think this might be my very favorite holiday ever. International Book Giving Day, a grassroots, volunteer-run initiative, is a day dedicated to getting new, used and borrowed books in the hands of as many children as possible.
It’s not complicated to participate or organize an event. You can celebrate by simply giving a book to a child! You could donate all your used books to a worthy organization, buy a new book for a child, or even leave a book in a waiting room (don’t you hate it when all they have is a well-worn issue of Highlights?). Better still, involve your children and have them do the giving!
You can read more about the event at the official International Book Giving Day website, where you can even download FIVE different lovely bookplates (like the one above!) to include with your book gifts. If you decide to purchase the bookplates, all proceeds are donated to Books for Africa, Book Aid International and Room to Read.
So. How will you be sharing the book love on February 14th?
