Neighborhood Find of the Week: One of the blocks in our neighborhood has this lovely mini lending library. I noticed that one of the residents had contributed a stack of academic theater journals: a theater geek just like me!

Show of the Week:
This week I took Kiddo to see Mummenschanz and I’ll be writing a review for the blog shortly. Two years ago he pronounced it, “the best show I have ever seen!” and it’s safe to say that sentiment has not changed. Check out their touring schedule to see if they will be performing in your area.
Books of the Week:
Mom: A Tale Dark and Grimm. I’m finally getting to this much-lauded middle grade twist on the fairy tale world. The sequel is already out.
Kiddo: Most Valuable Skills in Chess. Chess is part of the NYC 2nd grade curriculum and Kiddo is loving it! (On the other hand, chess is one of the few games I don’t like!)
New Kid: This Moose Belongs to Me. This might have made my best picture books of 2012 list had we read it in time. A tantalizing blend of absurdity, cuteness and pathos.

I enjoyed the theatre links — all great advice for cultivating kids’ love of theatre. And I too dislike chess…
The wait between moves is interminable!
We loved the Moose book too. My kids only like role playing with their chess set – they make their horses be best friends and live in the castle together. I think they think it’s some kind of minimalist playmobile or something!
Oh, that is a MUCH better use for a chess set!
Alex read the Grimm book and loved it. Waiting for the new one in paperback or the library.
I’m halfway though and really enjoy the book’s originality.
I really enjoyed looking through the theater links. I have slowly been introducing my 3 year old to the theater. She has enjoyed youth performances in our area, and this year we are really enjoying a ballet family series. I found some good tips in your suggestions!
Thanks, Shaunna. I think it’s never too early to start taking kids to the theater. I’m glad the links were helpful.
Love the links and looking forward to The Nutcracker from Moscow Ballet next weekend!
